Large Scale Photos

Large scale photographs are a HUGE trend in decor right now.
They can be seen all over the blogosphere and in the shelter mags.
Making a bold statement in any style room.
They give a room a gallery-like effect
and create a strong focal point.
Personally I love 'em!  It's a Niche Style fave!
I have one hanging over my bed.
(see it on Instagram)

You can buy/find large scale photographs at Ikea and 20X200 and Gray Malin . I'm sure you can find many more sites online to find these LARGE photos.
Do you have large scale photographs in your decor?

Slim Aarons…Vintage or Current??

Slim Aarons is one of my favorite
vintage photographers!
His photos are mostly from the 60's through
the 80's and depict the celebrities
and high society of the time.
I feel like the photos are vintage but many of
the styles depicted are current now.

Here I found photos with similar fashion and styles
to Mr Aaron's original works.
Can you can tell which are his and
which are today's pictures?

All of the pictures on the LEFT are Slim Aarons'.
The other pictures:
#1 Photo galleries are so relevant now and seen frequently in decor.
#2 Panama hats are "in" style this summer.
#3 Is a Tommy Hilfager ad, surf style is always in!

#4  Gray Malin photograph, this style photograph
is HOT now.

#5 Is the Beverly Hills Hotel pool now, it's as famous a spot now as it was back in '72 when
Mr Aarons' photo was taken.

Ikea's STOCKHOLM leather sofa is divine!  It has the lines of a vintage sofa but the advantage of being new. Actually the whole STOCKHOLM collection is really cool! It's totally mid-century modern and priced right. Look how it compares in look to some vintage sofas...

Here's some other items I like from the
STOCKHOLM collection.

Nesting coffee tables, simple mid-century lines and gorgeous wood tone.
Walnut veneer chairs, beautiful curved shape.

Creamy white glass cabinet with walnut legs.

The new Ikea catalog is out.  Check it out.

not your mother's pink wine

Back in the 1970's and 80's everyone drank white zinfandel,
it was the "In" wine to drink.
What most people don't know is it was actually a mistake made at the Sutter Home Winery. The owner was trying to make Rosé  wine and basically screwed up, but made a gazillion dollars anyway.  The real deal is French Rosé from Provence and is the quintessential summer wine. It's made from red grapes, but is crisp and served cold like a white white. It pairs with everything we eat in the summer, grilled meats and seafood, salads, pasta and even cold food with vinaigrettes and garlic.
Our own West Coast is making some great ones now that aren't sickly sweet like the white zin of the old days. Sunset Magazine did an article this month declaring Pink the New White.  Here's some of their recommendations:

Charles & Charles 2013 Rosé
(Columbia Valley; $11)
"Strawberry, white raspberry, kumquat, and rose petals, walk on the wild side." Sunset Magazine

Inman Family 2013 "Endless Crush" Rosé of Pinot Noir
(Russian River Valley; $25)
"Tart raspberry and bright citrus with hints of wet earth and honeysuckle".
Sunset Magazine

Charles Heintz 2013 Rosé of Pinot Noir
(Sonoma Coast $19)
"Lovely florals, red berries, grapefruit, and earth in pinpoint balance." Sunset Magazine

Drink up the Pink!

Caprese Salad Cravings

Sunset Magazine had a delicious sounding recipe this month for a Nectarine Caprese Salad I want to make.  Ever since having the Maple Brook Farms Burrata and heirloom tomatoes Saturday night at
Oak Long Bar + Kitchen ,  I've been dreaming about burrata. It was creamy and fresh and the tomatoes tasted like summer! We mopped up the cabernet vinaigrette and the burrata with fresh crusty bread.
It was food heaven.
So until we can all make it to the Copley Plaza Hotel for their burrata, let's try this one made with tomatoes and juicy summer nectarines.

Hope you are enjoying your summer!
